Accounting Services

From start-ups to established enterprises, businesses rely on accurate financial information in order to maintain profitability and capitalise on new opportunities. Wortham Jaques's accounting services will help you to achieve accurate record-keeping and reporting. We also provide support on issues such as initial accounting system setup, cost-containment, tax planning, investments, and employee benefit and profit-sharing plans.
These services include but are not limited to:

  • Accounting system setup and support
  • Bookkeeping (Monthly, quarterly, or annual)
  • Preparation and submission of VAT returns
  • Payroll processing
  • Cash flow budgeting and forecasting
  • Preparation of monthly or quarterly management accounts
  • Preparation of annual financial statements

Bookkeeping and VAT compliance

Accurate record keeping is a vital ingredient for business success. Good business records are essential if you are to understand and evaluate the performance of your business and steer it in the direction you want it to go. They are also the key to preparing accurate accounts and VAT returns, without which you are at risk of incurring financial penalties from HMRC.

The trouble is that bookkeeping can be complicated, time consuming, and an unwelcome distraction when you are trying to build a business. At Wortham Jaques we have a range of cost effective solutions to minimise the burden, from taking over your bookkeeping completely to setting up a system that you can use comfortably, freeing you to focus on your core business.

Payroll Services

Wortham Jaques offers a comprehensive payroll service to relieve you completely of the weekly/monthly burden of payroll processing. If you wish to keep your payroll function 'in house' we can help you reduce the time spent on administration by implementing a cost effective computerised payroll system that will help ensure correct and timely RTI submissions.

Self assessment

As a self employed individual you are required to complete an annual self assessment tax return; if you are in a partnership, a return for the partnership is also mandatory.

At Wortham Jaques we have the expertise and technology to deal with self assessment tax returns quickly, efficiently and correctly. In the process we are often able to spot tax saving opportunities too. And we can do all that very cost effectively, usually as part of a fixed fee package for dealing with all your business needs.

Worried about the cost in the event of a tax investigation by HMRC? There’s no need to be. All our clients are offered a fee protection scheme which covers the cost of accountancy and other professional fees in the event of an investigation. We will be happy to provide details on request.

Tax planning

Whether you’re looking for tax advice regarding a one off transaction, regular end of year tax planning, or longer term strategic tax planning, Wortham Jaques can assist with effective strategies to minimise your tax liabilities, maximise your cash flow, and keep you on track to your financial goals. Our comprehensive knowledge and experience of the UK tax system, including income tax, corporation tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax and VAT means we can help you to make the most of planning opportunities and avoid tax pitfalls no matter what your circumstances.

Protecting the family wealth

Effective IHT, estate and trust planning is essential to ensure financial security for loved ones. In a business context it can help facilitate a smooth succession of ownership. Wortham Jaques's role is to guide you through the complexities of the UK’s IHT and trust tax legislation to facilitate the transfer of assets and minimise the tax liability of your beneficiaries. Careful planning will ensure that your loved ones don't have any unwelcome surprises or complications to deal with during a time of loss.

Financial and retirement planning

It is vital to plan in advance if you wish to maintain your lifestyle after retiring from work. At a time when the ‘official’ retirement age is increasing, state provision is reducing, pension legislation is constantly changing, and stock markets are volatile, professional advice is more important than ever. Wortham Jaques will work with your chosen investment adviser to make sure that the optimum advantage is taken of tax efficient investments and the reliefs available for pension contributions. Don’t have an investment adviser? No problem, we will be happy to introduce you to a known and trusted independent financial adviser.

Accounting software support

Accounting software can provide useful and timely information in the form of financial statements, reports and graphs. However, it can only provide this information if you purchase the right product and then install, setup and use it properly. We don't just help you use the software, we help you use it more efficiently and more effectively.

Wortham Jaques offers the following solutions to help meet your accounting software needs:

Personal Training

Whether you want us to train you personally or your staff (or both) we can provide cost effective training sessions at your premises or ours.

Installation and setup

We can install and configure accounting software in either single or multi-user mode and assist new users with initial setup. We can also help experienced users manage their businesses more effectively by improving their current setup.

Support

Our support service can provide you with any installation, setup or operational assistance you might need.

Review

Our review service involves checking your accounting records and making any corrections, adjustments or reclassifications necessary to ensure that the financial information you receive accurately reflects the financial condition of your business. Reviews may be conducted at any time, but we recommend monthly reviews to provide you with up-to-date information and feedback about your business.

Cash flow and budgeting analysis

Cash flow can make or break the ability of a business to survive. Good cash management can improve liquidity, reduce costs, and increase profitability. Wortham Jaques can help you maintain optimal cash flow levels by preparing forecasts and budgeting accordingly, helping you to analyse your spending, and rebalance your budget to achieve the best possible cash flow. This planning can be revisited if and when there are major changes in your business to ensure that you continue operating at an optimal level. With our help and guidance, you can always be confident of keeping on top of your finances.

Financial projections and forecasts

No one can predict the future, but we still have to plan for it. At Wortham Jaques we combine our expertise and experience with an understanding of your business to produce financial projections that can help you manage your business plan and spending. Forecasting for the future is imperative to your business success. We make a point of keeping up to date with current market trends so that your business can be prepared whatever the financial climate may be.

Business Valuation

Wortham Jaques can provide in-depth analysis to help you identify and analyse the factors that determine the value of your business, or one in which you have an interest. Uses for this service include estate planning and compliance, buying and selling businesses, divorce matters, and family partnerships. There are so many factors that contribute to the perceived value of a business. Our expertise can help you evaluate business opportunities in which you have an interest and guide you towards making business decisions with confidence.

Mergers, Acquisitions, and Sales

Business transactions and transitions are complicated affairs. Whether you're buying, selling, or considering a potential merger, Wortham Jaques has the knowledge and experience to help you successfully structure and negotiate the deal. We employ careful analysis and due diligence to determine a fair asking price, pinpoint the most favourable tax structures, evaluate financial and cash flow impact, and assess compatible business functions and tactics. Expanding or contracting your business is a huge undertaking. With our expert advice, you can be sure of making the right decisions for your business.

Debt and finance advice

Wortham Jaques can assist you in sorting out the different options available for debt management and financing. Rebalancing your debts can improve cash flow by lowering repayments and/or reducing the total amount of interest payable, and may even result in tax savings. Regardless of whether you are comfortable with your current level of debt and able to service the repayments, our expertise may well be able to save you money and/or reduce your monthly outgoings.

Auto enrolment (AE)

AE is the requirement for all employers to make an approved pension scheme available to their employees. Eligible employees must be enrolled automatically into the scheme and employers must contribute towards it. The requirement is being phased in, with each employer being allocated a ‘staging date’ which is the date by which they must implement an approved scheme.

Larger employers have already reached their staging dates. Now it’s the turn of smaller employers, all of whom have been allocated a staging date sometime between now and the end of 2017. Getting an approved scheme in place takes time, so you must take action now. There are stiff penalties for failure to comply. Do you know your staging date? If not we can find out for you, just give us a call with your PAYE reference to hand.

Once a scheme is in place there are mandatory administrative procedures that employers must follow in a range of different circumstances. As always with new regulations, these will place a proportionately higher burden on smaller employers. The good news is we have the systems in place to cope with all the requirements on your behalf.
